Cleaning the loft: Remove all waste matter, droppings and litter from the loft daily, then vacuum-clean. Clean feed troughs and water containers daily with hot water and allow to dry before use.
Disinfection by using desinfectans: To eliminate pathogens, like viruses (e.g. pox), bacteria (e.g. salmonellae, E.coli), mycoplasms and fungi: On the days specified in the treatment plans, after cleaning spray the loft, floor, walls, seat shelves and other equipment with a working solution of desinfectans. Working solution = 60 ml (3 dosing heads) per 2 litres of water. Allow 4 hours for full effect. Do not rinse off with water. Pigeons can remain in the loft.
Disinfection by using parafectans: To eliminate worm eggs and worm larvae (especially of round worms and hair worms), as well as coccidial oocysts and trichomonads; simultaneously effective against viruses, bacteria and fungi: After cleaning, disinfect the loft (as above) with a working solution of parafectans. Working solution = 60 ml (3 dosing heads) per 2 litres of water. Allow 2 hours for full effect. Do not rinse off with water. Remove pigeons from the loft, returning them only after the disinfectant has dried and the loft has been thoroughly aired.
Note: During the flying season, lofts should only be disinfected in the course of treatment for specific diseases.
Prevent the spread of pathogens by using chevi-tren or ins 15 Mites (including red bird mites), ticks, fleas and lice (including plumage lice) can transmit infectious organisms in the same way as flies, mosquitoes and beetles. The loft - and especially the cracks inhabited by vermin - should therefore be sprayed about every 2 months with
a working solution of chevi-tren (60 ml per 2 litres of water) or
a working solution of ins 15 (60 ml per 2 litres of water).
Note: Steps should also be taken to control small rodents: Domestic poultry and wild birds must be kept away from the loft area. Keep stray pigeons in quarantine outside the loft area.
